This is almost certainly a fragment of a small book fitting from the 16th/17th century. Take a look at VT-NBC8664X! Your local archaeologist will definitely be happy about it! 😉

What surprises me is that the piece is quite massive. Was the hole used for fastening? Another question, there is a book called "Handbuch Buchverschluss und Buchbeschlag" by Georg Adler. I've already had a quick look at it. Do you know it? What do you think about it? I'm thinking about getting it. But at a price of €100, I'd be interested to hear what you think.
