Obverse: Portrait of a man looking right; reverse not visible, as iron is soldered on, presumably repurposed as a talisman. What are your thoughts on this?
A very experienced metal detectorist said that it could be a late Roman pseudo-coin fibula and a potential treasure trove.

This is a Carolingian pseudo-coin fibula; typical features include the beaded border and the pin holder on the reverse. This type is particularly common in the Netherlands (Friesland), but also in northwestern Germany. For comparative images, see, for example, here: VT-945WPCM3. In any case, report it to the relevant authorities as soon as possible!
Thanks for the helpful explanation. My next appointment with the archaeologist to present my finds is in June; will that be enough time?

I am always happy to receive an email with a good photo and coordinates of particularly beautiful or rare finds - promptly after the find and before the semi-annual find submission deadline.
