I see it similarly... trigger on a rifle... it looks quite large for that, with a pivot and a deflection point... Winchester rifles have this bracket for ejecting cartridges, but that doesn't fit the MA...

It could also be used as a trigger for the roller shutter (nut). The large combat crossbows usually had quite long levers, but the crossbows used for hunting were smaller. It's definitely worth researching... 👍
