The German nationalist Berlin Bismarck Youth was founded in 1920, making the DNVP the last party in the Reichstag to establish its own youth organization. In 1922, various youth groups in Hanover that were close to the DNVP merged to form the Reich Association of Youth Groups of the German National People's Party, which was renamed the Bismarck Youth of the German National People's Party (Bismarckjugend) in the autumn of 1922. The Bismarck Youth was politically completely dependent on the DNVP. Initially, the Bismarck Youth was led by Wilhelm Kube. In March 1923, Hermann Otto Sieveking, chairman of its Hamburg regional association since 1922, took over the chairmanship of the Bismarck Youth. Under his leadership, the organization took on a paramilitary character. In addition, the Bismarck Youth began to hold annual national youth meetings.[1] After Sieveking died in September 1931 at the age of 40, Herbert von Bismarck from the House of Bismarck was elected as his successor as chairman of the Bismarck League in December 1931. By mid-1923, the Bismarck Youth visibly disintegrated, as the DNVP identified with the social order of the Empire and therefore became unpopular among young people.[2]
